Based on the 1974 novel by James Baldwin, If Beale Street Could Talk is the story of Tish, a newly engaged young woman in Harlem, and her artist fiance Alonzo ‘Fonny’ Hunt. When Fonny is arrested for a crime he did not commit, Tish races against the clock to prove her lover’s innocence while carrying their first born child to term. Directed by Barry Jenkins (Moonlight), If Beale Steet Could Talk is a celebration of love told though the story of a young couple, their families and their lives as they try to bring about justice.

Two screenings as a collaboration between Words of Colour and Glasgow Film Theatre and part of the Conversations with Baldwin festival celebrating 100 years of James Baldwin.
