CRER Lunchtime Talks - The Other Half of the Empire: Scots and early British colonialism in Asia. c. 1690-c.1820

Debates on the historical origins of inequality and racism in Scotland often focus, understandably, on the legacies of involvement in transatlantic slavery.

This talk surveys the growing number of Scots in the Asian half of the Empire and reflects on what this tells us about the colonial and global roots of enduring inequalities and racism in modern Scotland.
