Using secondary and oral history research, Dr Marisa Wilson (University of Edinburgh) will demonstrate how the British imperial project to ‘improve’ Highland landscapes and people led to a series of transformations that radically altered the everyday lives, workdays and diets of sugar workers and their families in Greenock.
