BBC AND BLACK BRITAIN: SOUTH ASIANS AT THE BBC 1930S-1940S

  • Hunterian Art Gallery Lecture Theatre Room 103 82 Hillhead St, Glasgow G12 8QQ (map)

This talk is based on new research from Professor Kaul's forthcoming book, The BBC and India. The BBC played an important role in broadcasting about, and to, India, especially during the Second World War, and the British Raj was keen to utilise the BBC in its imperial strategies. A number of Indians came to work for the BBC in London during the war as well as in the subcontinent. Many stayed on after the war, whilst some returned to help further develop broadcasting in India and Pakistan after Independence in 1947.
